Honed marble island and custom oak cabinetry in a luxury kitchen

Specialty Surface Care

The Finish Determines the Method

Products differ in pH. Techniques differ in abrasiveness. Dwell time matters. A residence with marble, quartzite, unlacquered brass, and antique hardwood needs four protocols, not one.

Principle

Cautious Is Faster Than Corrective

Most damage in a luxury residence is not caused by neglect. It is caused by an efficient product used confidently on the wrong surface. Etched marble, hazed cabinet finishes, scarred appliance panels, and stripped sealers are the result of speed applied without material knowledge.

Blu Lux documents what is installed in the residence before deciding how it will be cleaned. Where a surface is unfamiliar, unsealed, or already compromised, we stop and ask rather than experiment.

Materials

Surfaces We Care For

Marble

Honed and polished marble are calcite-based and react to acidic products. Blu Lux uses pH-neutral cleaners, controlled dwell times, and non-abrasive tooling, and treats honed surfaces differently than polished ones because they show water and residue differently.

Natural Stone & Travertine

Filled and unfilled travertine, limestone, and slate vary in porosity within the same residence. Products are matched to sealer condition, and standing moisture is removed rather than allowed to dwell in the surface.

Quartzite & Granite

Harder than marble but still sensitive to abrasive pads and degreasers that strip sealers. Cleaning is kept neutral so the sealer schedule set by your fabricator remains intact.

Hardwood & Antique Flooring

Finish type governs method. Site-finished, factory-finished, oiled, and antique reclaimed floors each have different moisture tolerance. Blu Lux uses minimal-moisture technique and never floods a wood floor.

Unlacquered Brass

Living finishes are meant to develop patina. Unless a client requests otherwise, Blu Lux cleans brass without polishing compounds so the patina progresses evenly instead of being reset in patches.

Stainless Steel

Cleaned and finished with the grain, avoiding chloride-heavy products and abrasive pads that leave permanent directional scarring on appliance panels.

Fine Cabinetry & Millwork

Painted, stained, and rift-sawn cabinetry are cleaned with lightly dampened, non-saturating technique. Edges, joints, and hardware receive attention because that is where product residue accumulates.

High-End Appliances

Panel-ready fronts, integrated refrigeration, and specialty ranges are cleaned to manufacturer-appropriate methods, with attention to gaskets, vents, and glass.

Glass & Large Glazing Systems

Interior glass, mirrors, and large glazing walls are detailed with a streak-controlled method that respects coatings and film applications where present.

Designer & Specialty Tile

Zellige, handmade, cement, and encaustic tile hold moisture and stain differently than porcelain. Grout tone and sealer condition are considered before product selection.

Scope Limitation

Blu Lux does not perform restoration, grinding, refinishing, polishing, stone repair, or specialized restoration unless specifically included in a written proposal.

Cleaning maintains a finish. Restoration changes it. Confusing the two is how expensive surfaces are damaged. When your property needs restoration work, we will say so directly and recommend that it be evaluated separately by the appropriate trade.

Questions

Surface Care Questions

Can you clean honed marble without etching it?

Yes. Honed marble is cleaned with pH-neutral products, short dwell times, non-abrasive tooling, and prompt drying. Acidic and abrasive products are excluded from the property protocol entirely.

Will you polish our unlacquered brass?

Only if you ask. Unlacquered brass is a living finish, and polishing resets the patina unevenly. By default we clean without polishing compounds and record your preference in the property profile.

Do you perform stone restoration?

No. Grinding, honing, polishing, refinishing, and stone repair are separate specialized trades. Blu Lux performs cleaning and will tell you when a surface requires a restoration specialist.
